The Willie Nelson & Family General Store

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Frank and Jeannie Oakley founded the Willie Nelson & Family General store on July 4, 1979, in Madison, Tennesssee.  It has moved several times over the years, and they are now located at 2613 McGavock Pike, Nashville, Tennessee — right across the street from the Grand Ole Opry.  In 2004 they opened a second General Store in downtown Nashville, where they sell Willie Nelson and Nashville, Tennessee souveniers.

Frank and Jeannie Oakley say this at
www.willienelsongeneralstore.com :

The Willie Nelson & Family General Store actually began life as an art & picture framing shop.  Willie would come by often when he lived in nearby Ridgetop Tennessee to chat and get various photographs framed.  As a result, the art shop quickly amassed a large display of framed photographs of country music stars and a good collection of Willie Nelson memorabilia and souvenirs.

In the fall of 1979 Willie was voted CMA Entertainer of the Year and before long, more people were coming to see the Willie memorabilia than those looking for art and picture framing.

And so . . . the Willie Nelson & Family General Store was born.”

Willie Nelson’s Fan Club

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I got my Willie’s World today, which is published quarterly by Andrea and Dandalion, the co-directors of Willie Nelson’s fan club.  Willie’s World is one of the best reasons for joining the Fan Club, which for $20.00 a year, is a steal, really.  They don’t deliver mail door-to-door in little town I live in, and I try and get to the post office every couple of weeks or so.  And it is always such a treat to open up that little box and find my Willie’s World waiting for me.

This issue was full of lots of news and photos, as always, but it had one bit of great news:  Willie Nelson’s Fan Club is going on-line!  The website address is www.willienelsonfanclub.com, and is set to launch tomorrow (August 1, 2007).  So, if you go there now, you can’t get in, but they are set to open the doors tomorrow, or soon after.  Let’s all be lined up and waiting to give them a big Howdy! and make them feel welcome.

I’m so happy to hear that they are getting their website up.  Another place to hear about Willie Nelson and his projects — now that’s good news!  They do such a great job with “Willie’s World”, I can’t wait to see what they do with a website.

Baby Wyatt meets Willie Nelson

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Sheryl Crow introduces her baby Wyatt to Willie Nelson backstage at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago Saturday, July 28, 2007.

He doesn’t look too excited right now, but someday he will be thrilled.  Well, actually, he does look a little appropriately awed.  “Is that really Willie Nelson holding my foot?”
