Bob Dylan, ‘Must be Santa’ Music Video

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Thanks to Budrock “Buddy the Illuminator” Prewitt, Lighting Director for Willie Nelson and family, for sending this video, from a  song on Bob Dylan’s Christmas Album.  I love this video; looks like they had a lot of fun making it.

Christmas In the Heart

All proceeds will go to charities for the homeless and hungry in the United States, Britain and 80 poor countries.

Asked why he picked those organizations, Dylan told the interviewer: “They get food straight to the people. No military organization, no bureaucracy, no governments to deal with.”

Dylan — born Robert Allen Zimmerman — said that although Jewish, he never felt left out of Christmas as a boy growing up in Minnesota.

He recalled “plenty of snow, jingle bells, Christmas carolers going from house to house, sleighs in the streets, town bells ringing, nativity plays.”

His idea of a good Christmas dinner was roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, collard greens and all the trimmings.

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

There was only one time I sat this far back from the stage at a Willie Nelson & Family Concert; since then I have been fighting my way, buying  my way, to sit as near to the front of the stage as I can; or at least getting there as soon as I could when the show ended.

I wasn’t at this show, but this video shows what it’s like to sit way up in the stands at one of his shows.  The amazing thing is, the sound is so good.  Everyone who was there got to hear an incredible concert and be moved by Willie’s music; even if you don’t get to make eye contact with him.

This song comforts me, too.

Willie Nelson and Friends; The Great Divide

The Great Divide
January 15, 2002

This is one of the greatest albums by Willie Nelson, or by anyone, really.  It definitely contains some of Willie Nelson’s greatest duets, and he mixes genres brilliantly like only he can.   One of my favorites, is ‘Maria’ written by Rob Thomas, who wrote three of the songs on the album.  Bernie Taupin co-wrote three songs.  Willie wrote the great “Great Divide”.

Maria (Shut Up And Kiss Me) (Rob Thomas)
Mendocino County Line (Leanne Womack)
Last Stand In Open Country (Kid Rock)
Won’t Catch Me Cryin’
Be There For You (Sheryl Crow)
The Great Divide
Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)
This Face
Don’t Fade Away (Brian McNight)
Time After Time
Recollection Phoenix
You Remain  (Bonnie Raitt)

Rob Thomas, of Matchbox Twenty, did an interview with Willie Nelson; here’s a little bit of it:

Willie:  So Rob, let’s start by telling folks how we met.

Rob:   I met up with you at one of your shows.  You do these damn three-hour sets.  By the time you’re done, I’m drunk.  I get on your tour bus and I can’t get anything out of my mouth, except, ‘I love you!’ In my head it’s all coherent, I want to talk about certain records, but instead I keep going, ‘You know the one with you on the cover? You know that song about the girl?’

Rob Thomas also stars in the video made for ‘Maria’, and it was selected as one of CMT’s sexiest videos.  Here’s a link to it; Universal Music won’t let their videos be embedded on any other sites; they want you to go to youtube to watch it:
