Willie Nelson Performs with the Texas Girls’ Choir (circa 2002)

Willie Nelson performed with the Texas Girls’ Choir, joining them to sing “Valentine” and “Amazing Grace.”  The concert fundraiser and other corporate sponsors raised over $100,000.00.  I don’t know when it happened, but I think in 2002.  He flew in from Hawaii to join them at the fundraiser.

The Texas Girls’ Choir was founded in 1962 by Shirley Thompson Carter who believed that music can change people’s lives and help them develop.  The choir started with 16 girls who met at the Fort Worth YWCA where Mrs. Carter worked as a director.  The group grew, has toured the world and played at the White House several times.  They now offer leadership training, and an annual music clinic and a charm school.  Members must have a B average in school. Over the past 44 years, more than 21,000 girls have been involved in the Texas Girls’ Choir Program
