Dallas Wayne @Willie’s Road House (Sirus/XM radio)

Thursday, January 1st, 2015

We invaded the Sirius/XM radio station downstairs in the Austin City Live building, before the NYE concert in Austin to visit with Dallas Wayne. Always a treat to hang out with Dallas, and watch him work. Once again, Sirius/XM Radio broadcast Willie Nelson & Family’s NYE show.

Fans who enjoy him on the radio should buy one of his albums, or go see him if he comes to a town near you. He puts on a great show, and that fine radio voice sings beautifully.

Dallas Wayne sits in with Tom Conway

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

“Great to see my friend Dallas Wayne at my gig tonight – all the way from Austin, TX!” — Tom Conway

Oh, Dallas, you are a long ways from Austin.  Tom Conway wrote on Facebook that Dallas Wayne, singer-song-writer-Sirius/XM producer and on air host, sat in with him Monday night at his show in Maui.  There’s a couple of handsome musicians.  (Thanks Sandra for taking the photo,)

Backstage at the Backyard

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

I asked Paul English if I could do a selfie with him, and he said, “I have no idea what that is, but okay.” Then I said I would love to have a Me and Paul picture; that everyone wants one. He is such a gracious man.
Budrock “The Illuminator” Prewitt

I took these selfies in the morning before the Willie Nelson and family show at the BackYard Amphitheater last Tuesday. Now I think I know why everyone avoided me all afternoon — fear of selfies on Facebook.

Thanks to these kind folks for being good sports; no one said no, even though they were all busy and on their way to do something somewhere.

Dallas Wayne and ‘Haybale’ at the Continental Club in Austin.

Monday, April 28th, 2014

Janis and I got to see Dallas Wayne and his band Haybale last night at the Continental Club, in Austin, along with Kelly, from Austin, and a friend.  What a treat!  It was a late night show on a Sunday night, and there was a crowd of people ready to dance and have fun.  The band sounded great, and Dallas even dedicated ‘Shoeshine Man’ to Janis and I.

See them if you can, South Congress street was so much fun, tons of places to eat — I found a place selling tofu sandwiches, which is a treat for a vegetarian to find vegetarian street food that doesn’t involve cheese or bread.   We didn’t eat there, concensus took us to a Mexican restaurant that was delicious, but it was still nice to see tofu on a menu.

You can see Dallas Wayne on the radio Monday through Friday, on Outlaw Country and Willie’s Roadhouse, on Sirius/XM Radio, playing other folks’ music. It was so much fun to get to see him live with Haybale in Austin. Thanks, Dallas.

Ray Price interview with Dallas Wayne, on SiriusXM Radio (2011)

Friday, December 20th, 2013

Ray Price, “Father Good Times,” with SiriusXM Willie’s Roadhouse program director Jeremy Tepper (left) and on-air personality Dallas Wayne backstage at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX on New Year’s Eve 2011.

Airing Saturday 12/21 at noon ET and Sunday 12/22 at 9 pm ET on Willie’s Roadhouse.

It might be an exaggeration to say that all roads in country music lead to Ray Price, but not by much. The Country Music Hall of Fame member, who passed away at his home in Mount Pleasant, TX on December 16 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, was a pioneer on several frontiers and influential beyond compare. He introduced a danceable style of honky tonk that became known as the “Ray Price Shuffle” with his 1956 hit Crazy Arms, which spent 20 weeks at No. 1 and helped him survive the rock ‘n’ roll explosion (many other country stars of the day were not so fortunate). Not to mention his smooth crooning vocal style on later hits like Danny Boy and For the Good Times, which are worthy of comparison to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

As a bandleader, Price’s Cherokee Cowboys proved to be a finishing school for future stars and ace musicians like Roger Miller, Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Bush, Buddy Emmons, and a young Willie Nelson, who faked his way on bass guitar to get the gig and wrote one of Price’s signature tunes, Night Life.

Willie remained lifelong friends with Price, who became an extended member of the SiriusXM Willie’s Roadhouse family. Here is a backstage interview with Dallas Wayne, following his performance at ACL Live at the Moody Theater (home to SiriusXM studios in Austin, TX) on New Year’s Eve 2011.

Ray Price honored on Willie’s Roadhouse, Sirius/XM Radio, with Dallas Wayne

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

Thanks to Willie’s Roadhouse, on Sirius/XM Radio, for their continuing tribute to the great Ray Price, who passed away this week.  Dallas Wayne, producer Jeremy Tepper and their staff honored him all day yesterday, with music, interviews, tributes by friends.

They continue today, and if you missed it, you can hear a vintage “Willie Wednesday” with Willie Nelson, Ray Price and Bill Mack live in-studio at the old Willie’s Place truck stop in Carl’s Corner, TX replayed today at 3 pm ET and midnight ET. — with Dallas Wayne, Jeremy Tepper, Willie Nelson, Bill Mack, Cindy Mack and Ray Price.

Another good reason to subscribe to Sirius/XM Radio.

Live! From New York! It’s Dallas Wayne and Jeremy Tepper, Sirius/XM Radio (Farm Aid 2013)

Friday, September 27th, 2013

Dallas Wayne, host of Willie’s Road House and  Outlaw Country shows on Sirius/XM, and Jeremy Tepper, producer,  broadcast live from Farm Aid 2013 in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

I always have to track down these guys at the Farm Aid concert, tucked back stage and broadcasting the 12-hour Farm Aid Concert.   Sirius/XM Radio has made the commitment to broadcast Farm Aid live for many years, and we fans are grateful that  they have.    They are working so hard!  It’s got to be challenging to bring the whole Willie’s Roadhouse Operation on the road and broadcast remotely like that.    Thanks, guys!

Dallas Wayne

It’s something to watch them work, coordinate interviews with performances, juggle schedules; their broadcasts are seamless; listening on the radio, Dallas makes it seem easy, but watching them live, you see how hard they are working and all the things they are doing.    But still, they always have time to say hello, and let me bug them to take some pictures.

Mickey Raphael stopped by for a visit before his performance with Amos Lee, one of Mickey’s many of the day.

Check out for a re-broadcast of the great concert, with performances by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Jamey Johnson, Amos Lee, Jack Johnson, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Insects vs Robots, and many more great artists.

And they are such nice guys, too.
