He crews with Willie Nelson & Family , he hangs out with rock stars and he’s got his own face book page. The girls love him.  The stuff of legends — he was mysteriously kidnapped a few years back in San Francisco, and then returned, just as mysteriously.  Some say his captors couldn’t handle him and brought him back, others say Ol’ Dillo staged the whole thing to get a few days off from work.  Regardless, his legend and fame grew.   Everyone wants a picture with him.

Breaking News: Ol’ Dillo Kidnapped Again; safely returned, no ransom paid

Friday, April 4th, 2014

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 2, 2014) “Ol’ Dillo,” the stuffed armadillo that serves as an on-stage mascot for country music legend Willie Nelson, has been returned after someone absconded with it after a Las Vegas-area show.

Officials at the Westin Lake Las Vegas resort in Henderson  Ol’ Dillo, vanished while audience members were greeting Nelson after a concert Monday night.

Westin marketing director Matt Boland says Nelson’s crew called in the middle of the night from the road, asking the resort to scour surveillance footage after the mascot turned up missing.

Boland says he was outside the hotel Tuesday morning when an apologetic man drove up and handed him a shoebox and instructions to return it to Nelson.

Boland says the armadillo was inside and has been sent to the singer in California.

It’s not the first time the armadillo has been abducted.

In September 2013, Ol’ Dillo was swiped after a show in suburban New York.

A video showed a woman snatching the armadillo, and later a different woman returned the stuffed toy to the theater’s box office in a sealed box.
