Friday, December 25th, 2009

http://www.myspace.com/tomconwayguitar

Guitarist Tom Conway plays a solo set every Tuesday at Stella Blues Cafe, Maui, Kihei, Hawaii, at 4:00 – 6:00  p.m.  No cover.

Tom and other musician friends from Hawaii, played with Willie Nelson at Charley’s in Pa’ai, Maui, last August, and showcased the music from Willie’s latest album, ‘American Classic.’

Tom has recorded with Willie in Hawaii, and then again in Texas.  I don’t know when that cd will be out, but it will be a gem.

Tom and his former band Gypsy Pacific have albums featuring their gypsy jazz music, and also here’s the link for CDBaby and Tom’s  No Fixed Address

“This is such an exciting, inspiring collection, you want to hear it again and again. From the amazing rising and falling arpeggios, to the sly wit of the arrangements and compositions Tommy Conway and his band have nailed it again. A must for lovers of the guitar and gypsy music”.

Willie Nelson, Tom Conway and Friends at Charley’s, in Pa’ai

Willie’s Place, on Sirius/XM Radio, re-broadcast Willie Nelson’s concert at Charlie’s, in Pa’ai, on Maui, Hawaii today.  The concert was part of MySpace’s secret concert series, and was held in celebration of Willie’s latest album, American Classic.  Willie was joined by guitarist Tom Conway, and other very talented local artists.

Today’s rebroadcast of this concert just ended; if you missed it, Sirius/XM will rebroadcast the show again on Saturday, November 28th, at 1:00 pm ET and at 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday November 29th, at  9:00 pm ET.

It is a great concert.  Willie sings from his American Classic album, and some of his classic songs.  The musicians he plays with are so good, and are so in synch with Willie on his material. I wish they would release this on cd.

fyi, you can pick up Willie’s Place  on Direct TV, too; that’s where I listened today.

Legendary drummer Les DeMerle injects a fiery Hot Club spirit into his latest Origin Recording.

Along with the Django-inspired group “Gypsy Pacific” and vocalist Bonnie Eisele, DeMerle weaves a joyous musical tapestry as the group takes the gypsy-jazz energy of Reinhardt and Grappelli up a notch, reworking bebop staples such as Pent Up House and Yardbird Suite, or American Songbook classics such as Skylark and Old Man River.

Recorded in Maui during a Hawaiian tour, Gypsy Rendezvous is a jubilant and relaxed jaunt through new musical territories for DeMerle’s dynamic band.

Tom Conway and Willie Nelson

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Tom,

Thanks for sending me the news article about the show at Charley’s with Willie.  And thanks to Sandra for the pictures!

Hey, Willie talked about you on Willie’s Place, with Bill Mack [sirius/xm radio].  He talked about the concert and recording with you.  And he called you Tommy!

I’ll bet you worked really hard getting ready for that show.

Linda

Linda,

Wow, I had no idea he mentioned me on Bill Mack! Actually, I worked my butt off on Willie’s new album…I spent a lot of hours transcribing every single tune on the album and wrote out charts for all the band members.  My personal goal was to memorize the entire record and I’m proud to say I hit the stage that night without a safety net!

An opportunity like this may only happen once in a lifetime and I really wanted to honor Joe Sample’s great arrangements and give it my all…  especially for Willie!  I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity / assignment Willie gave me and I cherish the memory of a wonderful night just fifteen minutes from my home on Maui.

Yeah, a lot my close friends call me Tommy. :  )

Thanks, Linda!

Tom
