Our Mission:

Colorado Horse Rescue (CHR) is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency relief, shelter, care, rehabilitation, and adoption services for abused, neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses. CHR provides community resources through equine education, counseling, information and referral services. CHR is funded through individual donations, grants, bequests and corporate sponsorships.

Our Goals:

  • To provide shelter, rehabilitation, care and adoption services for surrendered and legally impounded horses, entrusted to our care
  • To facilitate the surrender of horses referred by Animal Control Officers due to owner neglect or abandonment
  • To facilitate the surrender of horses by owners who are no longer able to provide adequate care for their equines

Colorado Horse Rescue’s adoption program places hundreds of horses into loving permanent homes. Adoption can be one of the most rewarding and wonderful experiences of your life. Many people believe that if a horse is available for adoption, nobody wants it and it has no value. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Many of our horses are sound, rideable trail horses.

We also have horses that are rideable with limitations, and others that can no longer be ridden due to age or health concerns. These horses can have the much-needed “job” of Companion. Who are these horses? What makes them a companion horse? Most often they are sweet, trusting, and loving animals that have advanced in age or have worked hard throughout their life. Usually they are non-rideable and make excellent friends for other horses. As a Companion, these horses also have the opportunity to live the rest of their days with a caring and loving family.

Here at CHR, we believe that variety is the spice of life, and that every horse should be loved and valued.
