“We are deeply saddened by the death of Family member Dan “Bee” Spears, long time friend and bassist for Willie Nelson and Family.

We are still in shock and gathering details as the day continues. He apparently died of accidental exposure at his property near Nashville, Tennesee.”

    To Willie,Bobby, Tommy et all,
I am very sorry to hear about Bee. I know how important he is to all of Willies family and friends and fans. Bee has been there since the beginning. He was a great Bass player, wonderful friend to so many. Bee will always be remembered as the funny, genuine soul that many of us were Blessed to know. Now Bee go do some shots with Poodie and Rock on in the Heavens. We will carry on the torch you lit and you will never be forgotten so sad , so unexpected……so many memories

Unbelievable. My condolences to the Spears family and WN&F for their loss.

In my humble opinion, the guy who plays bass for Willie Nelson is the second most important person on that stage. Bee did it for decades. He will be greatly missed.

    - It’s all kinda’ wrong that Bee is gone. Just thinking about the wonderful songs on WN & Family’s album “Farther Along” is moving me to tears. So long Bee, I wish you had been more careful and were still with us. All this grief somehow reminds me of the title of a four word ‘Folk Uke’ song that I’ve heard you sit-in on LIVE on several occasions. The first letters of those four words are MFFU and I guess that’s what happened.

  25. Judy Wright says:

Sending up prayers for all his family & friends. He will be missed by so many fans! Thanks for the memories Bee! Rest In Peace!

  26. Robbie & Oddrun says:

So very sad. We’re crying a little bit, but at the same time we have to be happy for the memory of a man who gave so much to the music which he had been a part of for so many years.
Heaven just got a great Bass player.
    RIP Bee
