Guitarist Waylon was part of the Willie Nelson & Family band for 35 years before he retired in 2008. Baldwin County Coroner Stan Zinson says Payne died Saturday morning, at a local hospital. He said Payne got up early in his home in Stapleton, Alabama, feeling ill, and his wife Vicki called an ambulance.

So sorry to hear about Jody. I liked him very much. Will always have fond memories of sitting with him in Amsterdam discussing Chet Baker and seeing his eyes light up when the images came flooding back.

My condolencies to Vicky, Austin and all his family and friends.

RIP Jody, you were a great guy and a fine axeman.

I first met Jody in 1968 in Fort Worth, Texas. We became friends fast and I always enjoyed being around him and listen to his playing style. Jody was a one only and he was very much a people person.
I will miss Jody very much and his gravely voice. Vicki and to Jody’s family may God hold you in his comforting hands.

Jody You will be missed by your family, Willie’s family and many fans!
I will never the first time we met in the late 80’s at a Fair in Keene, NH.
Where ever your journey takes you now, it will be a better place because you are there.
    RIP
