Last of the Breed Show in Reading, PA (8/22/07)

Willie Nelson, Ray Price and Merle Haggard will join for a Last of the Breed show at the Cabarrus Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania on August 22, 2007.   We are so lucky these guys want to do some more shows, they must have had some fun the first time.  The first leg sounded exhausting to me:  16 shows in 18 days, or something outrageous like that.  I hope they come to Colorado again, but we were lucky that they played two nights here.  I’m going to travel somewhere to see them.

Onstage, Nelson’s musical family consists of Sister Bobbi (piano) and longtime band mates Jody Payne (guitar), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Bee Spears (electric bass), Paul English (snare drum) and Billy English (percussion). They’ve played together for more than 30 years, and are so comfortable on-stage, it’s like watching your best friends play a Sunday-night jam session in your living room.

As a performer and songwriter, Merle Haggard was the most important country artist to emerge in the 60′s. Throughout his career, Haggard has become a champion of the working man, largely due to his rough and tumble history. Seventy albums, and 600 songs later, he is regarded as one of the most influential country music figures ever, and has been an inspiration to countless other artists.

During his long and distinguished career, Ray Price has accomplished the remarkable feat of re-inventing honky-tonk and also gaining success with lushly arranged love ballads aimed at the country and pop market. Price was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996.

Tickets for “Last of The Breed” go on sale Saturday June 16th and are available at the Cabarrus
