The free celebration kicks off at dusk on Friday, Aug. 27 at the Lawnchair Theatre as Jailhouse Industry’s present the 1986 classic film, “Stagecoach,” starring Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and John Schneider. A short documentary on Waylon will precede the movie.
Saturday, Aug. 28, Waylon Jennings Day offers an all-day celebration with all things Jennings. The Country Boy Restaurant, Puckett’s Grocery and Joe Natural’s organic restaurant will feature some of Waylon’s favorite dishes from the new cookbook, Cooking Waylon’s Way, authored by Jessi Colter and Maureen Rafferty.
Serenite Maison will offer live music during the afternoon, and a Waylon Museum will be set up in the Leipers Creek Gallery. The museum will showcase the iconic outlaw’s guitars, awards, art and memorabilia along with his Cadillac parked out front. The Waylon & Friends merchandise booth will be selling Waylon Jennings Day event posters, Waylon’s autobiography, Jessi’s cookbook, and merchandise & CD’s from Waymore’s Outlaws, Waymore Blues Band members, and Special Friends.
The highlight of the weekend will be a free concert beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lawnchair Theatre with Buddy Holly’s legendary band, The Crickets-J.I. Allison, Joe B Mauldin, and Sonny Curtis, opening the show. Following will be Waymore’s Outlaws with The Waylors and Waymore Blues Band members along with their Special Friends performing Waylon’s hits beginning from the 1960s to the year 2000 making this truly a weekend to remember for any and all Waylon fans. Some of their Special Friends joining them on stage to celebrate his life and music areRodney Crowell, Tony Joe White, Bonnie Bramlett, and Carters Chord.
