  16. KG CARROLL says:

I just came from Poodie’s condo, where I spent an hour with Poodie’s mom and the rest of his family and friends. There is a pall that has fallen over Spicewood, Texas with his passing. He had friends all over the world, and seemed to know everyone. I’ll miss playing golf with him, and I’ll even miss him ribbing me about me being a yankee.

Poodie’s funeral will be in Waco, and he will be put to rest next to his dad. All dates and times are incomplete.

  17. LindaLee says:

Lots of people are in shock. In Flagstaff, a guy jumped on stage to get to Willie, and he just grabbed his shirt and lifted him off to stage left. He has been watching Willie’s back for so long.

  18. Whiskeyriv says:

Life without Poodie just won’t be the same for those left behind. For him, he’ll be raising HELL up there…….Man, we are all suffering.

  19. LindaLee says:

Thanks for the update, Kevin. I know you got to spend a lot of time with him, doing what he enjoyed, out on the golf course. He will be missed. Let us know if you hear anything firm about Waco or Austin memorial.

  21. Rachael says:

Such sad, shocking news. I can hardly believe it.
I’ve had the good fortune to visit with Willie and family many times over the years, and was introduced to Poodie on many occasions. I always found him to be such a warm, charismatic fella, with a real welcoming smile. He was especially lovely to my 77 year old mum. They adored each other! On the occasions when she visited with the band he’d greet her like a long lost friend, and with outstretched arms he’d give her a great big hug… it really made her day… month…year! I don’t know how I’m gonna break this to her…

My deepest sympathy and prayers go to Shaye, Poodie’s family and to his many friends the world over. My love and prayers to Willie and family, who I know will be sad beyond words.

Like Whiskeyriv says “go and raise some hell up there!”…and be sure to score a hole in one, for all of us !

    RIP Poodie.

With love from Rachael and Diana.

  26. Stephanie says:

Life as my family knows it has changed forever. I have one daughter in bed physically ill and another who hasnt stopped crying for hours. I give myself time to grieve tonight but tomorrow it is back to the business of living as we prepare to bury Mama’s precious son. I thin k I will take up golf! I saw a pink set of clubs last week. I think that will be a fitting tribute to this Giant of a Man.
Rest well and know we love and miss you already! Steph, Ron, Maggie and Mary Lee

  27. Donald & Joyce Reed says:

Donald & I was so sorry to hear of Poodie’s passing; he will be missed by so many. When we were waiting for Willie to do a concert, Poodie was the first one we would see on stage going about his work methodically; he made a hard job look easy. It was like when you saw Poodie, you knew Wille & Bobbie were near by. Our condolences to the Locke family and also to Willie & Family. Don & Joyce Reed Abbott Methodist Church

  30. Norman says:

I spent last evening in The Irish Pub in Atlantic City, Poodie’s favorite bar “east of the Mississippi River”, and the place I met him almost twenty years ago. Some of Poodie’s dearest east coast friends laughed, cried, and told stories about Baby Boy.

Now I have to pack for the only sad trip to Texas I’ve ever taken….

  31. Dillon Locke says:

The shock that surrounds my family is very intense. I cannot think of how we will be able to survive without the rock of our family. From his quirky sense of humor, to the way he always had a good joke. Uncle Poodie was a legend, a rockstar, a great son, brother, uncle and most of all a great friend. His motto of living life to the fullest is something everyone should remember.

  34. Judy Wright says:

We’ll all miss seeing Poodie standing in the wings, watching over Wille & family, and looking out at all of us fans.

Keeping all in my thoughts & prayers.

I am heartbroken and my love, support and prayers go out to all the fans, family, and friends. Poodie was an awesome man and a great bar owner. I am a Texan that is currently in New York and Poodie and Bud Rock always brought love from Texas to every show. And for that I thank him. My sadness overcome me knowing there will always be a little part missing in the shows to come. We will always have a smile on our face and a tear in eye when we think of Poodie

Poodie purchased The Hilltop from my father James in the late 90’s. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He brought joy and goodness to many people, and he contributed to a substantial music presence in an area I spent my childhood, before the big houses and sprawl came to town

  39. Jeff says:

Poodie always had a joke and smile. I will miss looking forward to seeing him. Thank you Peter for introducing Poodie to Robin and I.
