Former Ambassador and the President’s  special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, died today.  He was 69.  Holbrooke has worked to save lives and find peaceful resolutions to complex political situations all over the world – Vietnam, Bosnia, Afghanistan.

A few years ago he proved he also had a sense of humor, and was a good sport when he agreed to appear as a guest on the Colbert Report, and arbitrate between Stephen Colbert and Willie Nelson to determine whose Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor was better (Willie Nelson’s Country Peach Cobbler vs. Steven Colbert’s Americone Dream).  At the end of the skit, he came out and sang with Willie and Stephen.
