Willie Nelson and Family are on a brief break from their never-ending-tour, but Willie is working harder than anyone I know works on a vacation.
Tonight, to celebrate the release today of his new album ‘American Classic’, Willie will perform a free concert at his neighborhood bar and restaurant Charley’s in Pa’ia.

Backing him at tonight’s concert is gypsy jazz guitarist Tom Conway, and some of his former Gypsy Pacific band members and other Maui musicians. Tom sent this note late, late last night:
“Hi Linda,
A couple of months ago Willie met with me and he requested I put together a jazz group to back him up for the Maui show. Needless to say we are thrilled to be a part of his new CD release tomorrow at Charley’s!
I’ve got a great lineup to join me to back Willie at tomorrow’s show: Marcus Johnson, on bass, and Phil Benoit on guitar, along with Brian Cuomo on keyboards, Dave Choy on Sax and Michael Buono on drums.
I’m pretty sure the show will be taped and aired at a later date on satellite radio.
We had a great rehearsal with Willie today. Time to hit the hay…another long day tomorrow!

Tonight’s show at Charley’s is part of My Space Music’s secret concerts:
MySpace Music is excited to host Willie Nelson performing at his hometown bar in Maui, Hawaii, for another intimate installment of the popular “Secret Show” franchise on Tuesday, August 25, the day his new album American Classic goes on sale.
This time, the original series known for connecting fans to the bands they love, will be connecting the legendary Nelson to the Low Country’s premier rock n’ roll outfit, Band of Horses, for a special guest performance.

He really is good. Did you hear his version of ‘A Peaceful Solution’, with Willie? It might be my favorite. Willie said once that he and Lukas took guitar lessons from Tom; that’s something, isn’t it?

Me, too. Tom said he talked to Willie about it, and it is moving towards the top of the release list (my words), that it had been cleared for launch (my words again). I’m excited, too!
Yes, I heard his version of ‘A Peaceful Solution’ with Willie and I love it. It might be a nice idea to make another video for it (just like I did for the Willie & Family and Rattlesnake Annie & Amy versions). I also planned to make one for the version Lukas & the Promise of the Real has made. Do you know that version? It’s so awesome.
I do know that one; it’s on the cd they sell at their shows.
