World renowned singer, songwriter and performer Willie Nelson will visit the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino for a performance at 7 p.m. Dec. 13.

The 76-year-old music icon is behind historic recordings like “Crazy,” “Hello Walls,” “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.” His career spans six decades and his catalog boasts more than 200 albums.

Nelson has earned every conceivable award in his profession and has also amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist.

The recent release of a collection of jazz standards on American Classic cements his place in history as one of the most celebrated and versatile musicians in American pop culture. American Classic refers as much to the man himself as to the storied Tin Pan Alley repertoire he explores on this elegant new set.

While it’s common now for mature pop artists to put their own stamp on the American songbook, Nelson practically invented the approach. He set the standard playing the standards more than 30 years ago with “Stardust,” perhaps this “outlaw” entertainer’s most daring move, an album that many industry pundits thought would get him laughed off the charts and out of the business. American Classic represents old-school record-making at its most sumptuously swinging, with a lighthearted, yet sophisticated, jazz feel.

And as if a canvas of words and music isn’t enough, Willie became a fiction author with the release of “A Tale out of Luck,” co-authored with Mike Blakely. Nelson’s debut novel is a classic Western tale that brings to life characters and themes central to any great Wild West story Texas Rangers, cattle rustling, Indian warriors, women of ill repute, saloons, shootouts and more. It was written as the back story for his false-front Western town he built outside of Austin and named Luck.

In addition to his extensive career writing, producing and performing, in 1985 Nelson founded Farm Aid, an organization dedicated to further the causes of America’s family farmers. He is also widely known for his efforts in lobbying for the protection of horses, as well as for producing his own blend of biodiesel.

Tickets for Willie Nelson’s Dec. 13 concert start at just $40 with discounts available to Apache Spirit Club Members. For more information on Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino or its associated enterprises, visit www.InnOfTheMountainGods.com or call 1 (888) 262-0478.
