Around 9:00 the lights dim, and with no intro music, no insane lighting show, Willie Nelson quietly and humbly walked out on the stage to a standing ovation. That’s right, a standing ovation for walking out on the stage. Along for the ride on this tour, Nelson’s younger sister Bobbi on piano, and son Lucas on guitar. After waving to the crowd, and asking the obligitory “How’s everyone doing tonight?” the band goes right into Whiskey River, and the crowd goes nuts! (As they do with every other song he plays).

It wasn’t until seeing Willie Nelson live did I notice how amazing of a guitar player he is.  At 75 years old he is playing tight, more complex solos then a lot of these “metal” bands flooding the market these days, and without all of the digital effects.

Proving the old ‘apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’ theory, son Lucas was a phenominal guitar player as well. Busting out stellar blues/jazz style riffs, and a voice reminiscent of Robert Plant, a voice with such passion. Lucas Nelson displays an obvious love for his music, and is well set to follow in his father’s footsteps of musical greatness. (Check out his band 40 Points www.myspace.com/40pts
