At first, Janis from Texas and I were just making plans to go to Willie’s Picnic together. Janis is the best, she takes such good care of me in Texas, along with Kelly and Cherie and Sue Ann and Ruth and the crew and the band all the others who are so good to me when I get to Visit Texas for a show. It takes a village. Anyway, then Willie added the show in Oklahoma, so Janis got on the world wide web and figured out flights from Dallas/Fort Worth to Tulsa, OK for the Downstream Casino Show. Then, Willie announced he’d be at the Back Yard’s 20th anniversary on Sunday, so we went to that. We had so much fun. It was so great to see the band play several days in a row, and all the other musicians who played, and to see friends I only see in Texas. And in Oklahoma, Janis and I got to hang out with Rick and Lily who had driven up for the show — that was a treat.
So we flew to Tulsa, then drove to Quapaw for the show.
Yeah, I was sitting back for this show, on the grassy knoll. Janis and I didn’t have tickets for the show, so she watched the show from back stage, and I sat way back and relaxed with Rick and enjoyed the show from a grassy hill. The sky was a beautiful backdrop. It was so relaxing watching it back there, compared to the show on the 4th of July, from the front row. The sound was fantatic; that’s one thing about watching the show from the front row, you hear the show through the bands monitors, and it’s a different experience. Very enjoyable! Just that in Quapaw, we were sitting by the sound board, and sound was great.
Willie treated the Oklahoma fans to a special song just for them, “Oklahoma Hills”
I got to visit with some of the crew
