KEARNEY — Music legend and 10-time Grammy Award winner Willie Nelson has added Kearney to his summer tour and will play Aug. 17 at Viaero Event Center.
Nelson has released more than 60 albums that blur into bluegrass, jazz, reggae, Western swing, country and pop genres, a press release from the Event Center said.
He gained fame in the early 1970s with hits such as “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” and “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys.” Nelson also is known for hits such as “Always on My Mind,” “Poncho & Lefty,” “Take It to the Limit,” “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” and many more.
Nelson has collaborated with countless legends, writing songs such as “Crazy” for Patsy Cline and “Hello Walls” for Faron Young.
A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nelson started Farm Aid in 1985 and has used his career to help raise money for farmers.
His most successful album, “Stardust,” was released in 1978 and spent 10 years on the country charts and sold more than 4 million copies.
Nelson last played in Kearney at the Event Center in 2005.
