Talk about your quick turn-arounds: Iconic country crooner Willie Nelson, who brought his family band to Desert Diamond Casino in March, is returning for a show July 11 at Fox Tucson Theatre.

Tickets ($49 to $104) go on sale for Fox Theatre members at noon Thursday and to the public on June 7.

This is the first time Nelson, 79, has ventured to downtown possibly ever. In the past dozen years or so, he’s played Desert Diamond Casino and the long-closed New West night club in Marana. Decades ago, when his star as a member of the outlaw country movement was just rising, he played the Maverick.

The chance to see him in the confines of the historic theater could lend a whole new perspective to Nelson classics like “Night Life,” “Me and Paul,” “Whiskey River” and “Georgia On My Mind.”

Willie Nelson & Family are set to perform at 7:30 p.m. July 11 at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St.

I’m not sure where the reporter got their info, but Willie has played in the downtown area of Tucson plenty of times. Specifically, he played at the Tucson Convention Center in 1987 during rodeo days. Sammi Smith and I went down to the show where she surprised him on stage while he was singing “Help Me Make It Through the Night”. After the show we joined him on his bus to share stories and other stuff! It was a great time!

Also, I’m excited about the upcoming show at the Fox Theatre. I am going to be the house photographer on this night! Photos will be coming!

I wondered about that! So glad he’s coming to your neck of the woods again!
