“Poodie Locke loved C. P. Vaughn and was amazed by his gift as an artist. I drove to the Hilltop from Tulsa to meet with Poodie about a pick with Willie’s picture on it. It hadn’t been done and Poodie said C. P. was his choice of artists. It was the day before Merle Haggard was filming “Motorcycle Cowboy” on Willie’s set. I asked Poodie if he had any picture’s of C. P.’s to look at. On the back of the stage at the Hilltop was this bar soiled picture of Willie done by C. P. . Honeysuckle Rose, which I have hanging above my work desk. I knew after seeing this picture, Poodie was right. C. P. was our man.
The next day, C. P. and I hung out on the set and that night and next morning at the Hilltop getting to drink eachother better. We have been great friends and brothers since. I too love C. P.” — Picking
