Willie Nelson helped celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Federation of Muscians at the Grand Ole Opry, on October 7, 2002.  When presenting Willie with a 25-year pin, Thomas Lee, the organization’s president, said, “Willie, we are a good twenty years late in presenting this pin to you.”  Willie was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

About the Austin Federation of Musicians

The Austin Federation of Musicians is the local chapter of the American Federation of Musicians of the U.S. and Canada.  The Austin Local was founded in 1907 and since then has assisted local musicians with wages, working conditions and other issues relating to their employment.  We’re musicians representing and working for musicians with over 500 local members.

WHAT DOES THE UNION DO?

The Austin Federation of Musicians’ primary purpose is to protect the interests of working musicians. We do this by negotiating contracts covering wages, working conditions and other workplace issues. We also provide benefit programs, such as equipment insurance,  geared  to the needs of musicians.
