Willie Nelson, Texas Monthly (May 2008)

Texas Monthly editor Evan Smith couldn’t resist posting a sneak preview of new cover, at www.TexasMonthly.com:

“Ordinarily it would be a couple of days before I’d preview this, but I’m really excited about it, so what the hay? Most of you — our 270,000 or so subscribers — will get this one, without type (the first time we’ve ever done a cover without so much as a word on it in 35 years). The rest of you — the 30,000 or so discriminating souls who come to us one copy at a time on the newsstand — will get a version with just one cover line, touting Mike Hall’s 12,000-word oral history of soon-to-be-75-year-old Willie’s life; it’s still an incredibly clean and compelling visual. And let me tell you, Mike’s piece is truly amazing. Among the people he talked to: Jimmy Carter, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, Robert Redford, Dennis Hopper, Norah Jones, Merle Haggard, Woody Harrelson, Ray Price, Jerry Wexler…

P.S. The picture was taken for us late last year by Platon. Best one-named photographer on the planet.”

THAT is one of the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen. I’m dreaming…of a backpiece tattoo. I did say dreaming…but, that’s OK, right? Ah, Linda, THANK YOU for posting this wonderful preview!
