On July 22nd the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance is teaming up with the Amazon Watch for a ‘first of it’s kind’ fundraiser event at the beautiful Bently Reserve building in Downtown San Francisco to raise money for the work of both groups. This amazing evening will include musical performances by American Icon Willie Nelson, Sara Wasserman and an All-Star cast of muciscians, and a locally sourced dinner and cocktails. The evening’s program will also include a very special charity auction and an awards presentation to 2011 SBA Visionary Award Winner Willie Nelson.

An exclusive meet and greet cocktail hour with the performers and members of the organizations is available for VIP ticket holders at 7pm, with the program to begin at 8pm.

In the past biofuels, including biodiesel have been connected to deforestation and rain forest endangerment through massive scale palm oil and soy production. This event will help educate the public on how supporting local, sustainable biodiesel production and using local renewable resources instead of feedstocks like international soy and palm can protect our planet’s precious rain forests.

Both organizations are very excited about the educational potential for this event as it will mark the first time ever a rain forest protection group and a biofuels organization have worked together for a common cause.

The SBA and the Amazon Watch are confident that this event will:

  • Draw national exposure from both entertainment and environmental media outlets
  • Raise local and national awareness on the benefits of local, sustainable biodiesel
  • Help illustrate a positive connection between community-based renewable energy and rainforest-ecosystem protection.
  • Be attended by celebrity (Film, Music, TV, Sports) environmentalist and social activist supporters of the SBA and the Amazon Watch.
  • Raise crucial funds for the important work of the Amazon Watch and SBA.

This important event will not only showcase the community and global benefits of community-based sustainable biodiesel, but more importantly will give supporters of both causes a chance to discuss the important issues and enjoy and amazing evening of music, awareness and giving.

2011 Visionary Award Presentation – Willie Nelson

Every year the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance honors an individual or an organization for championing the cause of the environment, and for challenging the status quo in order to bring about real change. This year the SBA honors Music Legend Willie Nelson for his continued support of environmental and social causes through his work, his music and his life. The Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance and Amazon Watch are honored to have Willie Nelson as our guest of honor at the upcoming event. The organizations will present him with the award during the evenings festivities.

The Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance has been dedicated to supporting sustainable, community-based biodiesel programs since 2006 and works closely with artists like Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson and Guster, educating fans and sourcing locally produced biodiesel and blends for tours, festivals and large scale fleets. The organization is also focused on creating transparency for the consumer through the development of a certification system for local, sustainable biodiesel in the United States.
