Musician-actor Willie Nelson has launched a film production shingle dubbed Luck Films, based in Luck, Texas. Joining Nelson in the venture are actor/producer Kerry Wallum, actor filmmaker Norman Macera and producer-directors Scott McCauley and David Von Roehm.

Nelson and partners plan to produce three to five films a year, which Wallum told Daily Variety would be in the “$3 million and under” range.

Luck Films is eyeing music specials, documentary films for TV and subscription Internet streaming as other areas for the outfit.

The first two films slated to go into production are “Shootout of Luck” and “The Dry Gulch Kid,” with the latter set to start preproduction in May, per Wallum. Both films will star Nelson, and feature the country singer-songwriter’s music.

The 10-time Grammy winner’s music has figured in more than 100 films and TV projects. His acting credits include “The Electric Horseman,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Barbarosa” and the bigscreen version of “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

“It’s the right time, and definitely the right group of people,” said Wallum in the announcement. “We have amazing talent who are ready to work with us, and we’re all looking forward to saddling up.”
