Lost Highway Records has announced the March 20th, 2007 release of a 2-cd set of newly recorded classics, and 2 new songs recorded by Willie Nelson, Ray Price and Merle Haggard. This is their first album these Country Music Hall of Famers have ever recorded together, and is titled “Last of the Breed.”
Last of the Breed is a 2-cd, 22-song collection, and was recorded in Nashville and produced by Fred Foster, who also produced Willie’s 2006 Grammy nominated “You Don’t Know Me — the songs of Cindy Walker”. Johnny Gimble was brought in to play fiddle on the album, Buddy Emmons plays steel guitar, and the Jordanaires provide backup vocals.
Songs include: Harlan Howards’s “Heartaches by the Number”, with Vince Gill on back-up vocals), Cindy Walker’s “Night Watch”, Mickey Newbury’s “Sweet Memories”, and Kris Kristofferson’s, “Why Me Lord?” The cd set will also include a new song written by Willie, “Back to Earth” and one by Merle Haggard, “Sweet Jesus” (co-written with Kenny Vernon.)
These three greats will tour in March in support of the album, backed up by Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel.
