Back Yard Memories: Freedom Fest (8/10/07)

Willie Nelson, Back Yard, August 10, 2007

The Back Yard we’ve known and loved is closed, gone but not forgotton.  We’ll always have our memories!  As long as we can remember them, anyway.

On August 10, 2007, Willie Nelson headlined a concert at the Back Yard, in Austin, Texas, to Benefit the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML), The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) and Wo/Men’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM).  Asleep at the Wheel, Paula Nelson, Folk Uke were among other’s who performed at the festival.

The show was emceed by NORML Advisory Board member, and crowd favorite former Dallas Cowboy football player Mark Stepnoski.  Comedian Jackie Martlin told jokes between the artists sets.

Before the concert, the folks from Scooterville put posters on the walls inside the venue.

It took them about an hour to put up, and as soon as the sun started to set, the posters were down in about ten minutes.  I thought that was so nice of the Franks Brothers to give those posters away.
