Bob Wills to Receive Honorary Grammy

The Recording Academy has announced that Bob Wills, the King of Texas Swing, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy this year.  Other recipients:  Grateful Dead, Doors, Booker T. & the MGs; Joan Baez, Maria Callas and Ornette Coleman.  The honorary Grammy lets the Academy to acknowledge these great artists who weren’t recognized the way they should have been.   Of this group, only Booker T & the MGs have earned a Grammy — 1994 Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “Crusin”, and the band’s guitarist Steve Cropper received a Grammy in 1968 for Best R&B song, as co-writer of Otis Redding’s hit (Sititn’ On) the Dock of the Bay.  The lifetime Achievement Award winners will be recognized at special event during grammy week, and acknowledged during the CBS broadcast of 49th Grammy Awards on February 11, 2007.

I wish they would do their presentation on tv.  I’d love to see Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, rest of the Dead, the surviving Doors, Joan Baez, and everyone all together.  Willie’s been nominated.  He’s on tour in Texas that week, but maybe he can fly in.  They could all jam!  Now, that would be a Grammy show worth watching.
