“I can’t believe I’m Playing Willie Nelson’s Guitar!” — Lyle Lovett

The Texas Monthly published a special magazine about Texas music, and inserted it into their February issue.  Included was this statement by Lyle Lovett:

In 1993 Willie did a live radio show in L.A. and I got to sing with him.  We were getting to the end of the last song, and they started flashing up on the teleprompter, ’10 more minutes.”

I saw him look over at me, and I thought, “No, no, no, no.”  And he looked over again, and I thought, “No, no, no,no.”  At the end of the song, he took off his guitar, and he put it around my neck.

And I thought, “Oh, my God.”  And I just kept thinking to myself, “I can’t believe I’m playing Willie Nelson’s guitar!”
