Merle Haggard to be Honored at BMI Awards Show Tonight

 

Merle Haggard will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 54th annual  Country Awards in Nashville on November 4, 2006.  This recognition is given to BMI songwriters and artists who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.  Well, that just about defines Merle Haggard, doesn’t it?  He has been named BMI Country Songwriter of the year twice, and has earned 58 BMI Awards over the course of his 40 year music career.  All but ten of those awards are country awards, but he’s also received nine pop awards and one R&B award.  He will be honored with an all-star salute in receiving his Icon Award at the Awards show which will be presented to him in a ceremony in Nashville tomorrow.  Awards for BMI Country Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year will also be awarded.

BMI is the oldest country awards program, saluting the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most performed country songs on U.S. radio and television.  The awards show is being broadcast on Adrenaline Nation TV.  For more info: www.adrenalinenationtv.com
