Nashville to Nairobi, a Sweet Willie Nelson Fan in Africa

Michael, blogged at his blog Nashville to Nairobi – http://nashville-to-nairobi.blogspot.com/index.html, and told this sweet Willie story:

I went and examined the baby, he sat down at a desk to work on paperwork. I soon joined him at the unit desk to finish my paperwork as quickly as I could. Then, I heard something familiar, yet so very, very out of place in the OB ward in the middle of the night in the middle of Africa.

Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman’s wife.

For those of you who are unfortunate enough not to know this song, it’s an old country one by Waylon Jennings. I looked up from my paperwork and saw a CD player next to the nurse.

-Is that yours?
-Yes. Is mine.
-Really?
-Yes. I love country music.
-No way. You know, I am from Texas. In the states. You know Texas?
-Yes, Texas. Many country music singers from Texas.
-Yes, and many country music songs about Texas.
-Yes.
-Who is your favorite? Do you have a favorite country singer?
-I like Don Williams. But this CD has many different singers.

The next song on the CD was good ole Willie.

Georgia, Georgia, the whole day through.
An’ just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind.

-Do you like Willie Nelson?
-Yes. Very good.
-I’m a big Willie Nelson fan. You know, I got to meet him once.
-Oh yes?
-My name is Michael, I extended my hand to him. What is yours?
-I am David

Evidently, 5 AM is another time for a chai tea break. The chai ladies rolled up their cart and began pouring cups. David had a cup poured and slid it over to me.
