Why I’m Going to Watch the 2007 CMT Country Music Awards

No, not to see Jeff Foxworthy.  And as much as I love awards shows where the fans vote for the winners, I am afraid the American Idol voters might be changing the whole landscape for this show.

No the reason I’ll be watching, or at least have the show on in the background, is I want to see Hall of Famer Kris Kristofferson receive the Johnny Cash Visionary Award .  This is a well deserved honor for this amazing singer-songwriter, who has made major contributions to music.  The presentations by Rosanne Cash and tributes by Willie Nelson, Keith Urban, Luke Wilson, Martin Scorsese, Russell Crowe, Gretchen Wilson and Don Was will be worth watching the show.

The Johnny Cash Visionary Award is presented each year to recognize an artist’s extraordinary musical vision, innovative and groundbreaking music videos and pioneering initiatives in entertainment. The award was named after the late Johnny Cash after he received the award in 2003. In tribute of his important impact on the music world, CMT presents this special honor in his name each year to an artist who exemplifies what Johnny Cash perfected — a vision.   Kris Kristofferson is a worthy recipient!

Oh, I want to see Toby and Hank Williams, Jr., sing, of course.

The show broadcasts tomorrow night on CMT.    It’s too late to vote for your favorites, but you can still vote for the song that Rascal Flatts will open the show with, at www.cmt.com
