Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel will perform together, showcasing songs from the new album, Willie & The Wheel Willie Nelson classics and a few surprises.

An award-winning singer/songwriter, bandleader, author, actor and activist, Willie Nelson, has led a legendary career spanning six decades and made unparalleled genre-defying contributions to popular music. The iconic Texan’s chart topping songs include “Good Hearted Woman,” “If You’ve Got the Money, I’ve Got the Time,” “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” and “On the Road Again.” Nine-time Grammy Award-winning Asleep at the Wheel has been tearing up the Western music scene for the past three decades. Hailed as the modern “Kings of Texas Swing,” they’re an ever-changing institution carrying the torch of big band swing music into the 21st Century. This special collaborative concert should be a high spirited musical celebration.

A concept thirty years in the making, Willie & The Wheel is a new recording of classic western swing songs hand-picked by the late Jerry Wexler. Better known as ‘Mr. R&B’, the highly regarded Atlantic Records A&R man, Jerry Wexler, was a great fan of the original Western Swing bands like Bob Wills, Milton Brown and Cliff Bruner – all first introduced to him while he was studying journalism in Kansas City. Willie Nelson also had grown up on western swing and it has always figured heavily into his approach to music. Finally Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel were added, resulting in a sublime collaboration, surefooted in its mastery but still as playful and daring as the originals.
