On the road again
Just can’t wait to get on the road again
The life I love is making music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again.

For someone who has reached such a pinnacle and stayed there, Willie Nelson certainly seems to tour all the time. In just the past five or six years, he’s played the Florida Theatre a couple of times, Freebird Live, opened for Bob Dylan in Metropolitan Park and, during 2005’s Super Bowl week, he played in a hotel parking lot on the Southbank. Saturday night at 7:30, he’s back, this time at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Nelson has written and recorded many, many songs over the decades. In concert, he tends to work his way through lots of them with little conversation in between.

He also has a new/old album coming out, “Naked Willie” (don’t worry, it’s not that …). It features 17 songs he recorded from 1966-1970. But these are the versions before the producers got hold of them and added all the syrupy strings that studios were doing then with what they called the Nashville sound. “Naked Willie” comes out Tuesday. (That still doesn’t sound good.)

Jamey Johnson opens the St. Augustine show. He received three Grammy nominations – country album, country song and male country vocal performance – for his album “That Lonesome Song” and the single “In Color.”

Tickets are $35 to $85, but they’re going quickly and could be sold out by showtime.
