Willie Nelson at the Boarding House (San Francisco June 7, 1975)

A songwriter and performer since the early 1960s, Willie Hugh Nelson tasted success early on, having composed ‘Crazy’ and ‘Funny How Time Slips Away’ in the late ’50s, both of which became huge country hits – with the former, in Patsy Cline’s version, reaching No. 2 in 1962 and subsequently becoming a true standard, covered by hundreds of artists across the years.

By the mid-1970s Willie was writing and performing “Outlaw Country”, and his albums Shotgun Willie (Atlantic 1973) and Red Headed Stranger (Columbia 1975) were both perfect examples of the new style, with the latter of reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart, and ultimately achieving double Platinum sales status.

To help promote the LP, Nelson played a series of concerts across the US and Canada, during which he performed a dynamic show at San Francisco’s Boarding House venue on 7th June ’75, recorded for live broadcast. Playing a fine selection of tunes from his recent albums, plus a number of well-chosen covers, this entire show is now available on this CD for the first time.
