News of Willie Nelson’s haircut has hit the world hard. His braided pigtails (above) have become part of his look, and he’d refused to cut them several times, including requests for movie roles, over the years. Then, today, his site posted new photos of him sans braids (below). This afternoon, The Ampersand asked Shawn Creamer (singer of Toronto’s The Beauties) to interview the country legend. And while the full interview will be posted next week, we thought we’d get this breaking news out about “The Haircut Heard Round The World“:
NP: The internet is abuzz about your haircut.
Willie Nelson: Tell them I also shaved my legs.
NP: Someone suggested you send it to the gulf to help them plug the oil spill.
WN: I heard about that, that’s at least thinking the right way.
NP: What’s the story there?
WN: I felt like I was pulling a trailer it had gotten so long. I’ve had my hair long for so long that I’d forgotten. My hair was way down below my waist, it was a problem, it was heavy and it got dirty and I couldn’t wash it because I hurt my arm playing golf. I was using a five wood and hit a rock, and when I hurt my arm that was the last straw. I couldn’t take care of my hair by myself and I had to have Annie, my wife help me wash it.
NP: That was it?
WN: I just went in the bathroom the other morning with a pair of scissors and cut it off.
NP: You did it yourself?
WN: Yeah, I was looking for a pair of scissors and I found one in the bathroom drawer and just reached back there and grabbed the ponytail and just cut it as close as I could get it. Annie’s a hairstylist fortunately and she cleaned it up and straightened it out.
NP: How does it look?
WN: It doesn’t look bad.
