The oldest of seven children in Cleveland, he lived in 21 places by the time he was 17, including a couple of cars. Kucinich scrubbed floors at school to pay off the book fees so he and his siblings could attend Catholic school. He entered politics at 21; was the youngest elected US mayor, at 31, in Cleveland.
