Congratulations Waylon Payne: “Solitary Thinkin’” nominated for Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance (Lee Ann Womack)

Singer/Songwriter and Actor Waylon Payne’s composition “Solitary Thinkin’” has been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Female Country Vocal Performance by Lee Ann Womack.

Payne’s mother, Sammi Smith, won a GRAMMY in the same category in 1972 for her performance of Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night.”

Payne wrote the song at a Los Angeles bar.

“I was out taking a walk and the song was weighing heavy on me, so I ducked into this bar called Numbers and wrote the song.  I later found out that the bar is a prostitute bar,” Payne laughs.

Payne released the critically acclaimed CD The Drifter in 2003.  He recently finished production on his next CD, The Bruton Experience, produced by the late Stephen Bruton, and plans to release it in 2010.

As an actor, Payne portrayed Jerry Lee Lewis in the 2005 film “Walk The Line” and  Hank Garland in the 2007 indie film “Crazy.”  Payne stars in two films to be released in 2010, “Kingshighway” and “Road To Nowhere.”
