Willie Nelson Weekend in Austin!

Austin, Texas will be the Willie Center of the Universe this weekend! It’s like Willie Nelson’s birthday celebration kicks off on Friday.

On Friday, April 20th, the City of Austin will honor Willie Nelson with a bronze statue, created and cast by sculptor Clete Shields, of Philadelphia. The statue, commissioned by the city and funded entirely by private donors, is a fitting tribute to their famous resident, and a lasting gift to the residents of Austin — and all us Willie Nelson fans who come to Austin from all over the world.

Filmmaker David Von Roehm and students of Charter Tech High School are filming a documentary about the making of the sculpture. David Von Roehm is also a partner in Luck Films, with Willie Nelson, Norman Macera, Scott McCauley, and Kelly Wallum. The documentary will be produced by chARTer~TECH Films, with support from Luck Films. You can learn more about Luck Films, at www.LuckFilms.com

David von Roehm, and Luck Films documented Mr. Shields at work in his studio, creating the statue and you can watch the Luck Films video here.

If you can’t be there in Austin for the unveiling of the statute — you can listen to a play-by-play from Sirius/XM radio broadcaster Dallas Wayne, who will be broadcasting live from the event. For information on how you can subscribe to Sirius/XM and listen to the show, visit www.Sirius.com.

Then, later that same day, on Friday night, Willie Nelson joins other artists and friends of Johnny Cash at the Austin City Live! Theater, for “Walk the Line: A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash.”   Matthew McConaughey will host the evening, and take a look at this lineup!

And on Saturday night, Willie Nelson & Family will contine the annual tradition, and will open the BackYard with a concert.   The Paula Nelson Band and Jamey Johnson will both perform, too.     And if you can’t make the show, once again, Sirius/XM Radio is coming through for fans, and will broast the show, at least part of it, and Dallas Wayne will be working hard, as usual.

I hope I can sleep tonight. My tickets are already worn out by me checking to make sure I hadn’t lost them.   They are always limp and worn by the time I get to the door.  It’s not easy being me the night before I leave for a show, I tell you what.   I have to get off this computer and pack.  Did I pack my tickets already…
