The 5th Annual Luck Reunion at Willie Nelson’s idyllic, western ranch in Spicewood, Texas near Austin took place Friday during the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival. The event was threatened by severe weather which grazed the area dropping enough rain to delay (and then cancel) main stage appearances by Blitzen Trapper, Lucius, a special guest spot by Kacey Musgraves and the celebrated Red-Headed Stranger himself.
What started as a 30 minute rain delay stretched over three hours as multiple thunderstorm systems approached the area, then stalled. Fans huddled under cover awaiting potential hail storms and electrical activity that was visible from the site but failed to strike the area. The storm did drop enough rain to make portions of the footprint muddy. Lingering electrical activity and persistent but light precipitation forced closure of the Main Stage.
Those few fans who waited out the long delay were rewarded by intimate performances by Willie Nelson, Lucius and other guests in the tiny 75-person capacity chapel and the slightly larger Revival Tent. Our slideshow includes exclusive shots of Nelson, Lucius and Ray Wylie Hubbard by official event photographer Suzanne Cordeiro. We squeezed in a few images of site so you can get a feel for how special this satellite SXSW event truly is.
