Pawtucket, R.I., loves Willie Nelson. After the red-headed stranger finished his set at McCoy Stadium on Tuesday night, he was greeted backstage by Mayor James Doyle, PawSox team president Mike Tamburro, and the team’s GM Lou Schwechheimer, who gave the musician a PawSox jersey and T-shirt.
Sox spokesguy Bill Wanless told us that Nelson was all smiles with the mayor, and that the 76-year-old country star took time to mingle with fans by his bus. Bob Dylan, on the other hand, who shared the McCoy bill with Nelson and John Mellencamp, was not as social. “He’s more off-limits than most,’’ Wanless said.
