There is a new mural going up in Downton Austin, near 7th and Neches Streets, that is a tribute to Willie Nelson.  It is being painted by local musician and artist Wiley Ross, who said he has wanted to take on a project like this for a few years now. Finally, this year, everything came together.

The artwork faces the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless. So far, Ross says the mural has been well received.

“All the homeless cats down here really dig it.  Haven’t had any problems with them at all man, they’ve been real cool. And then just you know people driving by taking pictures.  It’s been an overwhelmingly positive response,” said artist Wiley Ross.

Ross expects to finish the mural sometime on Friday. Willie Nelson’s latest album was just released this week. “Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin” is on sale now.
