Mickey Raphael plays on two cuts on the upcoming ‘Silver Mountain’ cd to be released next month by the Detroit-based Deadstring Brothers. Mickey plays harmonica on “The Light Shines Within” and “Slow Down” on the album, which also features Masha Marjeih on vocal on eight of the 11 tracks.
Silver Mountain, recorded in the band’s studio is described as a combination of rock, blues and country, along with a British influence they picked up from London pubs while touring in support of their last album, ‘Starving Winter Report.” While in London they met pedal steel/guitar player Spencer Cullum and brother Jeff Cullum bass player, whom they recurited for their band, along with keyboardist Patrick Kenneally.
You can sample their music (but I couldn’t find Mickey’s cuts there) on their myspace account at www.myspace.com/deadstringbrothers. Also, you can learn more about the band, and their US tour, which shows dates in October.
