Willie Nelson appeared on the Leonard Lopate show today on WNYC, and talked about his long career in music, what keeps him inspired, and what it was like to work on his new ‘Country Music’ album with producer T Bone Burnett and an all-star musicians Buddy Miller, Ronnie McCoury, and Riley Baugus. “I love Willie Nelson, love his music. But there is something else about him that is amazing, and that is his ability to provide a bridge between and among different musical styles, different sections of our population, with ease, without ever seeming to do so.
This man played with Ray Charles, raises money for farmers being wiped out by politicians, and had Toby Keith write a song about him. He’s got an amazing gift of showing that regardless of race, or age, or gender, or geography, we are one nation. Obama should make him the poet laureate. Or maybe permanent roving ambassador of music.”
