I am still so angry that they arrested Willie Nelson last week in Texas. It makes me so upset that he was hand-cuffed, put in a cold holding cell, held for hours while they processed him. It’s well known that he suffers from a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder (marijuana eases the pain from this injury), and those handcuffs had to hurt. I know the law is the law, blaw, blaw, blaw, but it’s a bad law and Willie Nelson does not deserve to be treated that way. Willie Nelson has done so much for so many in this country. He should be thanked by all of us. Someday people will look back in disbelief, that times were so dark that someone like Willie Nelson could get arrested for smoking an herb. This prohibition has to end, and it will, it is just a matter of time.
What about those other famous Texas outlaws, the Bush twins, Barbara and Jenn? Jenn was arrested in 2001 for a minor in possession of alcohol, or similar charges, in Austin. Well, they were issued a ‘field release citation,’ and released by the Austin Police Department. No handcuffs or holding cells for them — they were sent home in their tax-payer funded gas-guzzling limosine with their full Secret Service detail protecting them.
Many people have expressed their outrage, most quick to point out that of course they don’t use the wacky weed themselves, but stating their opinion that Willie Nelson deserves our love and respect, not to be harrassed. But, I think Snoop Dogg said it best, in response to a question from TMZ, who has posted a video of their interation with him here.
TMZ: What do you think of Willie Nelson being arrested, what happened to Willie Nelson, getting caught with 6 oz of weed?
Snoop Dogg: “They better leave Willie the *&$% alone, man!” said Snoop to TMZ. Why are you ^#%@&ing with Willie, Man? Willie Nelson is a legend, man. Really, sometimes you gotta back off certain people and have a certain amount of respect for your elders. You know what I’m saying? Willie Nelson is our elder. He’s somebody who lived through many decades of music and hard times and what not and living good and going up and down. So give him that respect.”
“Who’s the *#&^-^@% that arrested him? I want to know who’s the police officer that said ‘You’re under arrest. You’ve got a right to remain silent.’ You dumb *&@%@&&, you. You stupid ^%@#~! you. What you think you going to gain by arresting Willie Nelson? He got out and he back smoking right now!”
TMZ: What you’re favorite cush?
Snoop Dogg: My favorite cush? Snoop Dogg Cush. You know what I want to say about that Snoop Dogg cush? “It’s always on my mind, it was always on my mind. You know I love you Willie Nelson, I love you to death, like a @*%&*, you’re my #($* peep.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again, if you’ve got a problem with Willie Nelson, you got a problem with me.
I got a weed license, so you can’t take me to jail for smoking weed. Matter of fact, I got some on me right now.”
I was starting to write my own scathing article, well scathing for me, but nothing so righteous as what Snoop Dogg said. It was the “Top Ten Things You Can do if You are Upset that Willie Nelson Got Arrested” — and things like e-mailing Texas Governor Rick Perry and asking for him to apologize to Willie Nelson, writing a letter to the editor of the local paper, writing the Hudspeth Sheriff’s office, join NORML, sign up with the TeaPot Party on facebook, etc., you know things like that.
Then just as I was getting really worked up, I got notice that Willie Nelson was encouraging people to donate to the Hudspeth County Sheriff”s toy’s for children program. That is so like Willie. Someone treats him so poorly, and he wants to help raise funds for their kids.
Following his arrest, Willie Nelson encouraged the inception of the National Tea Pot Party: “There’s a Tea Party, how about a TeaPot Party? “We Lean a Little to the Left.” Steve Bloom, publish of www.CelebStoner.com , started a page for the party, and soon 50 states started their respective pages. I do encourage people to sign up for Facebook and connect with one of the TeaPot party sites which encourage states to “Tax it, regulate it, legalize it.” Go here to be informed and get involved: Willie Nelson Teapot Party page on Facebook like thousands of other are doing.
And so in the spirit of kindness that is Willie Nelson, I encourage you to donate to the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Gifts for Children program. And remember to write Willie’s name on your check or money order, so they know you are donating in support of him:
As in years past, the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s office will participate in a gift-giving program for children in the local Sierra Blanka ISD, Fort Hancock ISD and Dell City ISD schools. On December 13, 2010, Santa Class will fly to each school and deliver the gifts to the children.
