Diehard fans of the NFL don’t get wrapped up in the halftime performances during the Super Bowl, especially over the last few seasons because, quite frankly, they have sucked. Media types tried on the Monday after this year’s Super Bowl game to try to convince viewers that the halftime show which we watched was spectacular. A 50-something performer which lip-synced her performance, that was spectacular?
This week, we lost Whitney Houston. At age 48, the woman which had a voice of an angel, passed. Her death was a very moving experience for me, as I grew up with her music. As I watched this evening’s DVR recording of last night’s Grammy awards show, one thing stands out front and center. The NFL needs Willie Nelson at the halftime show next Super Bowl. A legendary songwriter and performer. Trust me, there will be no shortage of performers which would want to share the stage with Willie Nelson during the Super Bowl.
This is going to be a personal mission of mine. Nelson, 78, despite his past issues, should be considered for the half time show in Super Bowl XLVII. Has the Chamber of Commerce of New Orleans heard him sing “City of New Orleans”?
Have you ever seen Willie Nelson perform in person? Have you seen how he interjects his family in his shows? Willie has written more songs than anyone on the current pop chart will ever think of writing. In his late 70?s, Willie rocks every show I’ve seen, and I’ve seen Willie 7 times.
It is time to reward a true American Icon with the half time show at next year’s Super Bowl half time performance. One man, one legend, with his legendary guitar, on stage in a great city. A legend in music and food during his 4th of July party in Austin, Texas. Willie Nelson needs to be on stage this year in New Orleans during the halftime, and the push to create that starts here today at Thepigskinreport.com.
I love Willie Nelson, and I’m not ashamed to say, I want him as the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII. And, we will be using all of our clout to get Willie on center stage of the Superdome next year.
