Friday had the best headliners. Willie Nelson on one stage, the B-52s on another (also Gavin Rossdale, Cool Shoes and Trout Fishing in America). I went to Willie Nelson, thinking I would skip out and hear the end of the B-52s. Willie was so crowded and everyone was so packed together, skipping out was not an option. It was so crowded, I think some people with me may have gotten a contact high from various chemicals in the crowd.
Willie put on a great show. He sang some of his best known songs. I’m not a huge Willie Nelson fan, but he is a legend. I was impressed at how good he sounded in person. The crowd was on their feet almost the entire time. The show had fierce energy that I wouldn’t expect an older country music singer to inspire.
I talked to a friend who went to the B-52s. He said that crowd was much more subdued. People pretty much sat down until “Love Shack.” Then it picked up, and the crowd got more excited. As we were walking by the Miller Lite Amphitheatre leaving the Willie Nelson show, we could hear “Rock Lobster.” That’s one of my favorite B-52 songs, so I guess we did get to hear the B-52s. We had taken the shuttle from War Memorial. It took us until almost 1:00 a.m. to get back with the crowds, but for $2 roundtrip and not having to worry about parking, this is the way to go.
