Willie Nelson Doll and President Lyndon Johnson

Janis took Willie Doll and me to the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Museum, in Austin — someplace I’ve always wanted to go. And President Johnson was there! He told Willie Doll this joke:

“A man was hard of hearing, so he went to his doctor to see if he could help him.   His doctor examined him, and asked, “Were you injured?”  “No,” the man said.  The doctor asked him more questions, then finally asked if he was a drinking man   The man confessed that yes, he liked to drink.

The doctor told him, “You’ve got to stop drinking.  If you do, your hearing will come back.   Go home, don’t drink for a month, and come back for a checkup to see how your hearing is.”

The man went home, and came back the next month.  “How’s your hearing?” the doctor asked.

“What?” the man asked.

“ARE YOU STILL DRINKING?” the doctor asked.

The man admitted that he was still drinking.

The doctor scolded him, “I TOLD YOU TO STOP DRINKING IF YOU WANTED TO HEAR.  WHY ARE YOU STILL DRINKING?”

The man responded, “I like what I’m drinking a whole lot better than what I’m hearing.”

[Janis said it’s the same old story, ‘there’s more old drunks than there are old doctors, so I guess we’d better have another round.’   The museum has an animated/robotic President Johnson, who is motion activated and tells jokes.  It is actually President Johnson’s voice, recording of jokes he told over the years.  I loved that museum.  Janis is the best Texas tour guide ever.]
