Last February, Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis honored Ray Charles with a two-night Jazz at Lincoln Center concert at New York City’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, at Lincoln Center. Nora Jones joined Willie and Wynton, along with Mickey Raphael and Wynton Marsalis’ Quintet, as they sang Ray Charles songs.
On October 15th, the dvd is being shown at select movie theaters across the country. At their website, you can enjoy a duet by Willie and Nora on a jazzy version of ‘You Are My Sunshine.” Their website is beautiful. It’s hard to belive this is only the 3rd and 4th time this group of has performed together. They are so good; it sounds like they have been playing together for years. I can’t wait to see the dvd, which will be available for sale on October 20th.
This video is just more evidence that Willie Nelson is a jazz musician, playing country music for the fun of it. Willie shines so brightly in that setting, with this talented group of musicians, his phrasing zings. He and Nora Jones are adorable together.
So, please, follow this link and enjoy the show. I never follow links (who has time?) and I’d never ask you to follow a link unless it was this good. I know I say this all the time, but I really mean it this time, you’ll thank me later.
Also, you can find out if the film will be shown near you. This would be a great concert to see on the big screen.
