Win a Free Copy of Willie Nelson’s, “Tale out of Luck” book

A Tale Out of Luck: A Novel

Thanks to Miriam, at Hatchett Books, publishers, for sending me five copies of Willie’s new book, ‘A Tale Out of Luck,’ written with Mike Blakely,  to give away to fans here at the blog.

I have to confess, this is the first western novel or shoot-em-up book I have ever read.  I just never picked one up before, and I read a lot.   But I really enjoyed this book.   It had something for everyone in it:  cowboys, Indians, outlaws, romance and adventure, horse thieves, music.   All in one book.

I knew I was going to read it, because of Willie’s involvement with it, but I didn’t know I was going to enjoy it as much as I did.   How he finds time to work on a book, beats me, but I think he wrote some of his other books riding down the highway on his bus, so maybe that’s how he contributed to this one.

The name of the town in the book’s title is familiar to most Willie Nelson fans, who know that Willie has a western movie set/town on his property outside of Austin which he has named, ‘Luck’.  The movie, ‘Red Headed Stranger,’ was filmed here, and other movies, too.

The book is the story of Captain Hank Tomlinson, a retired Texas Ranger, who starts up the town of Luck.  And Hank says, “Where ever you go, you’re either in Luck or out of Luck.”  He’s a hunter, he has good tracking skills, he’ can ride, he can shoot, he can shoot while he rides:  a well rounded guy.  Maybe all Texas Rangers are like that.

The action starts right away when Hank’s prize horse is stolen, and his son and god son go in search of it.  They feel responsible because they had been charged with watching the horse, but didn’t do their job.

The plot has lots of twists and turns, and romance, and a happy ending, which I like in a book.   And of course, there’s music!  As it turns out, the characters can play guitar, and they find time to pick whenever they can, usually after a hard day of riding and shooting and rescuing.

It’s a fun book.  Hope it’s the first of a series about Captain Tomlinson and his boys.  When I read the book I thought, ‘Well, this would make a good movie, wouldn’t it?”  I hope that’s in the works, too.

WIN YOUR COPY

So, to win a copy of the book, whoever can make the most words out of  the phrase “A Tale out of Luck” will win a copy of this book.

E-mail your list of words to me at FlorenceEm @AOL.com.  You can only use each letter once, proper nouns are fine with me, no abbreviations, and English only, because, unfortunately, that’s the only language I speak well.   Words must have at least 2 letters, and none of those fake scrabble words like za, or ra, either.  They have to be real words that I have heard of, with my modest University of Nebraska education (Go Rig Red).

Contest ends Friday at midnight.   In case of a tie, I’ll draw a name out of a hat.
