By now you know the score: Houston native Beyoncé snagged 10 Grammy nominations, including the big categories record (for “Halo”), song (for “Single Ladies [Put a Ring on It]”) and album of the year for I Am … Sasha Fierce.
But there are other Texans contending for Grammy Awards, which will be presented Jan. 31 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and televised live on CBS (KTVT-Channel 11). So let’s take a quick look at some Lone Star Grammy competitors.
Willie Nelson
The ever-prolific Nelson, a Texas legend who has won seven Grammy Awards, enjoys three new Grammy nominations. In a duet with Dallas-raised Norah Jones, he’s up for the best pop collaboration with vocals prize for “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” a cut from his recent standards album, American Classic. Classic is among the contenders for best traditional pop vocal album. Finally, Willie and the Wheel, his swinging project with Austin’s Asleep at the Wheel, could take home best Americana album.
